Shirley Bassey has donated a gown to raise further funds for the Dame Shirley Bassey Scholarship Fund, which was started in 2003 when she auctioned 50 of her iconic dresses for the College and the Noah’s Ark Charity.

Bassey is well-known for wearing at times fantastic glittering creations that have become part of her larger than life image.

She wore this Jenny Packham dress at a fund-raising concert at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff and has also worn it to  the premiere of  the James Bond film Spectre. The legendary singer is closely associated with the film franchise having sung three of the Bond theme songs.

The concert was a tribute to the musical dame with performances by college students, musicians and graduates. College Principal Hilary Boulding announced the naming of the Shirley Bassey Studio, in celebration of the Cardiff-born singer’s long-standing support of young Welsh singers studying at the College.

In 2003 Dame Shirley donated the proceeds from an auction of her gowns to the College to establish the Dame Shirley Bassey Scholarship Fund. From this investment, a scholarship is now awarded every year to an outstanding Welsh singer to help further their musical development.
