July 20, 2018 by

The Big Splash lands in Newport this weekend (21-22 July) and ahead of the free family street theatre festival taking place, local schools have been creating flags and bunting to be displayed throughout the event as part of the Festival Makers 2018 project.

Danielle Rowlands, Education and Participation Officer at Newport Live., said, “We have worked with Jubilee Park Primary, St Woolos Primary, Alway Primary and Tredegar Park Primary to run sixteen creative sessions at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre, which were attended by 156 pupils.

“They really got into the festival spirit and created fantastic flags and beautiful bunting that will be proudly displayed throughout the event. They also participated in The Big Splash Quiz, which will also be on offer to all families attending the festival.”

The Festival Makers will receive certificates for their creative input.

With over fifty performances across the city centre covering everything from slapstick sketches to surreal storytelling, as well as dance, live music and hilarious walkabouts, Big Splash 2018 is going to be jam-packed with family fun. Performers including Newport’s own Mr & Mrs Clark, Taking Flight, Wild n Beets, Barracwda, Le Navet Bete, Thrill Laboratory and Flossy and Boo will be performing at six main Big Splash zones of entertainment in five locations; The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre, Friars Walk, Kingsway Shopping Centre, the Newport NOW zone along Commercial Street, the river walkway between the University and The Riverfront and a smaller performance zone at Horton’s Coffee House near the pedestrian footbridge.
