Taking Flight’s take on Romeo and Juliet

July 29, 2016 by

There are only a couple of chances left to see Taking Flight’s take on Romeo and Juliet.

It’s Verona 1963 and it’s the annual college Boat Race, the high society courtship event for the rich, beautiful and perfectly coiffed. Times are turbulent, so you’ll need to really support your house, whether it be Montague or Capulet, as they battle it out on the river. A new take on a very old tale – you can expect to see Taking Flight’s signature traits – exciting visual theatre with live original music and plenty of comedy.

All performances feature BSL by Sami Thorpe and live audio description. This is promenade performance – it moves around and you move with it. The boat race will take place come rain or shine – just bring your brolly and wrap up warm.

Romeo & Juliet has been touring all over Wales, Bristol and Forest of Dean in beautiful outdoor spaces. 2016 marks 400 years of Shakespeare. Join Taking Flight for one of his most famous plays.

Company Producer and founder, Beth House talks about why Taking Flight are so vital to be inclusive when making theatre,

‘There is a sea change happening – it feels like finally the issue of the lack of diversity in our theatres and on our screens is being talked about, and for the first time it seems as if we might be moving forward. There are a lot of positive initiatives like Ramps on the Moon and Act for Change but I hope that one day industry, theatre makers, performers and of course audiences will accept that people on stage are storytellers and that it doesn’t matter who they are as long as they are good at telling their stories. It’s not inclusive theatre. It’s theatre.’

On tour from Thursday 16 June – Monday 1 August 2016. Prices from £6- £14. For full listings, visit www.takingflightheatre.coc.uk
