Get ready for a night of genderbending ballet fun and lots of skills and artistry – Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo are on their way back to Wales.

Last seen in Cardiff in 2006, the cheeky New York’s all-male, professional comedy ballet company dancers are  at Wales Millennium Centre (October 16-17) as part of a Dance Consortium UK tour.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, or ‘The Trocks’, as they are best known, will again prove that, yes, men really can dance en pointe even if the shoes sizes are a little larger than usual.  Dancers including Ida Nevasayneva, Olga Supphozova, Lariska Dumbchenko and fellow hairy-chested ballerinas grace the stage in up to size 12 pointe shoes, effortlessly displaying their startling technical prowess and no-less extraordinary make-up skills while hurtling through classical ballet repertoire.

The programme will include Swan Lake (Act II), Merce Cunningham-inspired Patterns in Space, Balanchine satire Go For Barocco andl Don Quixote.

Founded in 1974 by a group of ballet enthusiasts, The Trocks first performed in the late-late shows in Off-Off Broadway lofts and are now treasured all around the world by audiences and critics alike. In 41 dynamic and non-stop years the award-winning company has clocked up hundreds of thousands of touring miles to over 610 cities in 40 countries.

Ticket holders can attend an Open Rehearsal in the Donald Gordon Theatre ahead of the performance on 16 October (4.20pm – 6.20pm) and after the show there will be a Q&A with members of the company to find out what life is like as a Trock.
